Die MIVA Austria ist ein Hilfswerk der katholischen Kirche. Auft
rag der MIVA ist die Finanzierung von Transportmitteln aller Art für de
n Einsatz in Mission und Entwicklung. Bei Mobilitätsprojekten in den ar
men Ländern des Südens reicht der Bedarf von PKW, Geländewage
n, Motorrädern und Fahrrädern über Traktoren, landwirtschaftl
iche Geräte, Boote, Rollstühle bis hin zu Reit- und Lasttieren. Be
kannt ist die MIVA auch durch die im Juli stattfindende ChristophorusAktion,
die in vielen Pfarren von Fahrzeugsegnungen begleitet wird.
Im Jahr 2016 w
urden von der MIVA weltweit 2.307 Fahrräder finanziert. Diese kommen zu
m Beispiel Schulen zugute. Kinder können sich ein Fahrrad ausborgen. So
mit wird der oft stundenlange Fußmarsch wesentlich verkürzt. Auch
Ordenseinrichtungen profitieren von der Fahrradaktion. Ein anderes Beispiel
sind Katechisten, die kirchlichen Laienmitarbeiter in den Ländern des
Südens. Sie sind unersetzlich und verrichten ihre Tätigkeit vö
;llig unentgeltlich. Wenn Priester weit weg sind, sind sie ganz in der N&aum
l;he: Nachbarschaftshilfe, Seelsorge von Mensch zu Mensch, Entwicklung an de
r Basis. Sie halten die Gemeinden am Leben, organisieren Wortgottesdienste u
nd Taufen, stehen Sterbenden bei und unterrichten Religion.

d kostet im Durchschnitt 100 Euro. Ein Fahrrad ist in Gegenden ohne jegliche
n öffentlichen Verkehr eine enorme Unterstützung und Hilfe. Und es
