onservatorio in Mantua und dem Archiv der Erzdiözese Salzburg, die Ordi
nariatskanzlerin Elisabeth Kandler-Mayr als „sehr erfreulich“ be
zeichnete. Der Band fasst die Ergebnisse des ersten gemeinsamen Symposiums,
das im Oktober 2010 in Mantua stattfand, zusammen.
Luigi Gatti, der aus Man
tua gebürtige letzte Salzburger Hofkapellmeister, bestimmte Salzburgs M
usik- und Kulturleben mehr als 30 Jahre lang − und ist dennoch heute f
ast vergessen. Weil eben Mozart und Haydn alles überstrahlten. Der von
seinen Zeitgenossen hoch verehrte Komponist wirkte zunächst vornehmlich
in Mantua, wo er zum Priester geweiht wurde. Neben seiner langjährigen
Tätigkeit als Musiker der Mantuaner Hofkirche Santa Barbara gründ
ete sein baldiger Ruhm vor allem auf der Komposition von Opern.
1782 wurde
Gatti von Fürsterzbischof Hieronymus Colloredo für das Salzburger
Hofkapellmeisteramt engagiert. In Salzburg schuf Gatti in 35 Jahren viele ge
istliche und weltliche Werke. „Im Salzburger Domarchiv sind mehr als 2
0 Messen, elf Litaneien, vier Vespern und zahlreiche kleine kirchliche Werke
erhalten“, berichtete Eva Neumayr vom Diözesanarchiv. Gatti habe
ein freundschaftliches Verhältnis zu Wolfgang Amadeus und Leopold Moza
rt gepflegt. „Er war einer der ersten, die nach Mozarts Tod dessen Mus
ik in Salzburg weiter aufführten“, sagte Neumayr.
Der vor 200 Ja
hren in Salzburg verstorbene Luigi Gatti wurde auf dem Sebastiansfriedhof be
graben, wo zuvor auch Leopold Mozart seine letzte Ruhestätte gefunden h
