Zur Weihe und zum Diakonat

„Sache des Diakons ist es, je nach Weisung der zuständigen Autorität, feierlich die Taufe zu spenden, die Eucharistie zu verwahren und auszuteilen, der Eheschließung im Namen der Kirche zu assistieren und sie zu segnen, die Wegzehrung den Sterbenden zu überbringen, vor den Gläubigen die Heilige Schrift zu lesen, das Volk Gottes zu lehren und zu ermahnen, dem Gottesdienst und dem Gebet der Gläubigen vorzustehen, Sakramentalien zu spenden und den Beerdigungsritus zu leiten. Den Pflichten der Liebestätigkeit und der Verwaltung hingegeben, sollen die Diakone eingedenk sein der Mahnung des heiligen Polykarp: Barmherzig, eifrig, wandelnd nach der Wahrheit des Herrn, der aller Diener geworden ist“ (Zweites Vatikanisches Konzil, „Lumen gentium“ Art. 29).
Der Diakon ist also Diener – Gott und den Menschen zu dienen, ist sein Grundauftrag. Die Nähe Gottes zu suchen im Gebet bedeutet auch, die Kraft zu haben, den Menschen nahe zu sein.
